Why is it called Red Letter?

In health care, abnormal results come through the electronic medical records highlighted in red to alarm the ordering provider something is amiss. Given the current state of health care in the U.S., the lack of patient-focused care and insurance directed/determined care, we feel the entire system should be in red letters to alarm us that something is wrong.

Red letter is often an idiom that highlights an important moment or occasion and often has special significance. We feel that opening this clinic will help mark an important moment in the lives of our patients and communities.

On a personal note, my family and I are involved in our local church and hold to the teaching of historical Christian faith. In many translations of the Scripture the words of Jesus Christ in the Gospel accounts are written in red letters. Jesus provided healing, offered hope, and met people in their moment to call them into a new life.

Though this clinic is for people of all faiths or no faiths, the principle of working to heal, offering hope, and meeting people in their moments is the mission of Red Letter DPC.
